A Sunday box is something that we have found to be invaluable for many of our clients.
It is an idea borrowed from Lisa Woodruff of Organize 365 who sells paperwork-focused Sunday boxes but can be a box, a bag, a shelf or even a whole cupboard.
The idea is that anything that requires further action goes into your Sunday Box, rather than cluttering up other spaces in your home.
It means that when you come across things in your sessions with us (or in your solo decluttering efforts) which require returning to others, repairing, replacing batteries, or other kinds of action progress won’t stall for you.
You can just pop the offending items into your Sunday Box.
The suggested workflow for a Sunday Box is to:
- place items / papers which require action into your Sunday Box
- by Sunday each week (or whichever day of the week works for you), deal with each item or note in your calendar a future date when you might be able to deal with each item
You don’t necessarily need to action everything and clear the box or space each week. It just provides a home for pending tasks and helps create the impetus for taking action on them.
If you can take the time to set aside the space for a Sunday Box, it will have a couple of real benefits:
- You can keep making progress in your downsizing efforts without “nagging tasks” slowing you down
- By grouping items, and looking in on them once a week, you can remove the barriers to dealing with them in your own time, in a convenient way.
Previous clients have told us that they love using this deceptively simple system so we would highly encourage you to go ahead and give it a try.
