Living in a cluttered or disorganised space can have a significant impact on an individual’s overall well-being. Recognizing this, plans for participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) often include decluttering as part of the participant’s plan goals.
In this article, we will explore how accessing decluttering support under the NDIS can contribute to achieving plan goals, the inclusion of relocation support when necessary, and our approach to working with NDIS participants.
Decluttering as an NDIS Plan Goal
Decluttering is frequently included as a plan goal under the NDIS, which shows the recognition of the need for support to support to creating a clear and organised living environment. This can promote independence, safety, and overall well-being.
Additionally, decluttering can have a positive impact on other plan goals, such as improving daily living skills, enhancing social participation, and maintaining good mental health, and as such is often recommended by support coordinators and occupational therapists even if decluttering support isn’t explicitly listed as a plan goal.
Relocation Support and the NDIS
In cases where the participant’s move is related to their disability, relocation support, including packing and unpacking, may be covered by NDIS funding. This recognizes that individuals with disabilities may require additional assistance during the relocation process.
Accessing Decluttering Services
Accessing decluttering services under the NDIS can be a straightforward process. We commonly receive referrals from various sources, including the participant’s support coordinator, occupational therapist, or directly from the participant themselves. Once we receive the referral, we simply check with the participant’s plan manager, if plan-managed, to ensure that we are working under an approved line item.
Our Approach to Decluttering
At Downsizing with Care, we offer personalized decluttering and organising services that cater to the unique needs of NDIS participants. Our most common approach involves weekly sessions of 2-3 hours each, where we work alongside participants at their own pace. We also do work on more intensive projects on a case-by-case basis..
To begin, we provide a free in-home consultation, allowing participants to meet one of our organisers and ask any questions they may have. Following this, we conduct an initial 2-3 hour hands-on session to ensure that we can accurately assess the scope of the decluttering project. Based on our evaluation, we create a service agreement that outlines the objectives, timelines, and cost of the decluttering/organising project.
Accessing decluttering services under the NDIS can significantly contribute to improving the overall well-being of participants. By recognizing the importance of a clear and organised living space, the NDIS supports individuals in achieving their plan goals and fostering independence.
Whether it involves decluttering problem areas, providing relocation support, or organising the home, our decluttering services tailored to NDIS participants can bring about positive changes and enhance their quality of life.
